Apple Teams Up with Acumen to Advance Clean Energy Solutions in India
Apple is set to enhance its social efforts in India by promoting clean energy innovation. The renowned technology company has partnered with Acumen, a worldwide non-profit organization, to launch an initiative that seeks to improve the lives of impoverished individuals while also prioritizing environmental conservation. Acumen has developed a 12-week program called Energy for Livelihoods Accelerator, specifically designed for social entrepreneurs, which will commence in September.
“Apple is committed to helping ensure that everyone can share in the benefits of a greener economy. We demonstrate the transformative potential of clean energy in everything we do, and we’re excited to support social innovators who share this goal,” said Sarah Chandler, Apple’s vice president of environmental and supply chain innovation.

This partnership drives the growth of emerging social enterprises with clean energy and energy-efficient solutions to address the needs of marginalized communities. Created by Acumen, the accelerator invites participants to join The Foundry, a global small business community. Participants get to support a network of peers, facilitators and mentors. Later, they can receive technical assistance and seed investment from Acumen’s Pioneer Energy Investment Initiative (PEII+).
The application for the initiative is now open. Indian small businesses and farmers with a clear social or environmental mission are invited to apply for a grant to promote sustainable energy solutions by July 24.
Apple’s environmental initiatives in India
This year, Apple also partnered with Frank Water to publicize its contribution to the development of clean water. The aim of this initiative is to improve water quality and supply chains. It also focuses on sanitation and hygiene services. In addition, Apple works closely with the Applied Environmental Research Foundation (AERF) to protect mangrove forests on the west coast of India.
By 2030, more than 250 global manufacturing partners, including 12 manufacturing facilities in India, will switch to 100 percent renewable energy sources to make Apple’s entire manufacturing process carbon neutral worldwide.
